Report by Amina Tyler, Press TV, London.
They came
from across the political divide with one cause in mind; to stop a new
piece of legislation being pushed through the British Parliament that
would tear up centuries of legal protection.
The Justice and
Security Bill will extend secret courts across England and Wales.
Opponents say this move will further undermine the very notion of
justice in the UK. Saghir Hussain is a Human Rights Lawyer and is
appalled at the prospect.
The government has been accused of
pushing forward with this bill after they were forced to pay an
undisclosed sum to Binyam Mohamed and other former Guantanamo detainees
for its role in their rendition and torture.

Tuition fees are harming the prospects of a generation
The shameful introduction of tuition fees by the last government and the hiking of them by this one has damaged the prospects of a generation, Bradford West MP George Galloway said today. He was reacting to news that the number of students registering for the University of Bradford for the coming years is down by 10 per cent.
'The last Labour government introduced tuition fees and this tawdry coalition has tripled them, although of course the deputy prime minister promised he wouldn't,' Galloway said. 'I opposed the introduction of them, I campaigned against them and I have repeatedly spoken out against them. Which neither of the other Bradford MPs - Labour and Lib-Dem - can claim. Their parties are responsible. Let's hear them justify it.'

GALLOWAY WELCOMES ODEON REPRIEVE
“I am delighted that the HCA have cancelled the agreement with Langtree, thus saving the Odeon from demolition,” said George Galloway today. “I predicted when I was elected that it was now impossible for the Odeon to be demolished. The people of Bradford have roundly rejected the destruction of the Odeon. This is a tribute to all who have campaigned so hard for so long to save the Odeon.
“There are many who are responsible for this fiasco. I have written to the Prime Minister and the Communities Minister, Eric Pickles who was a Bradford councillor for many years, demanding a public enquiry into the regeneration debacle which has not only left the Odeon shrink-wrapped and in an appalling condition, but which has given us the Westfield hole.

The Elizabeth Foundation’s help for pre-school deaf children
(Note: George visited the centre, which is attached to Bradford Royal Infirmary, on Friday, September 14. He came away deeply impressed by the work of the centre and staff and vowed to hold fundraising events for the charity which is badly in need of support.)
The Elizabeth Foundation’s help for pre-school deaf children
That this House congratulates the Elizabeth Foundation, its staff and all who have made this charity so successful, in its work for teaching pre-school deaf children to listen and talk in both Bradford and Portsmouth and would like to see its work recognised much more widely.

GALLOWAY CALLS FOR CHIEF CONSTABLE'S RESIGNATION
The Chief Constable of West Yorkshire should resign over his part in the potentially criminal cover-up over the Hillsborough disaster, George Galloway demanded today.
Sir Norman Bettison, then a senior officer serving with the South Yorkshire force, was involved in the original Hillsborough investigation in 1989 where 96 football fans died. It has now been revealed that 116 of 164 police statements taken after the incident were doctored to show the police in a better light. 'And if this is not a criminal act,' Galloway continued, 'then not only is the law an ass, it's a deaf, dumb and blind one.
'From the outset South Yorkshire police set out to deflect responsibility for the disaster onto Liverpool fans,' Galloway said, 'when it is clear that a major incident plan was not implemented and that there were obvious and manifest police failures in response to the disaster. Worse than that the police altered statements on an industrial scale and briefed the media that drunken, ticketless fans were to blame. It is now clear that this was a disgraceful attempt to blackguard the dead, 41 of whom, we now know, might be alive today if the police and the rescue services had acted properly.'

STALINGRAD 1942 : THE HOUR OF COURAGE HAD STRUCK THE CLOCK
We know what’s at stake and how great the foe’s power,
And what is now coming to pass.
The hour of courage has struck on the clock
And our courage will hold to the last.
The bullets can kill us, but cannot deter;
Though our houses will fall, we shall remain.
Anna Akhmatova, 1942
13 September, 06.45, 1942 the Nazi onslaught on Stalingrad commenced with a bloody vengeance. The sky turned brown from the dust of fragmented buildings, the ground vibrated because of the power of the explosions. The Fascist army's advance continued but faced the most ferocious resistance imaginable. The horror of fighting the Soviet troops on their favoured terrain, the approaching Russian winter, fast became a reality for Hitler's Generals. While German tanks entered the outskirts of Stalingrad the Soviets dug in preparing to fight for every district, every street, every house.
